Finally, after a summer of touring, a straight up - pro review on my favorite workhorse..
The Bogner Uberschall is a legendary high-gain tube amplifier known for its versatility, brutal aggression, and excellent clean and crunch tones. Its ability to deliver a massive wall-of-sound distortion while maintaining clarity makes it a favorite among heavy metal and hard rock players.
The Uberschall is a high-gain monster, often referred to as "the ultimate weapon for riffs and chugging".
The Mk2 model, for example, features up to seven stages of cascading gain for a powerful, saturated tone.
While famous for its extreme gain, the Uberschall is surprisingly versatile.
Most models feature dual channels, offering a range of tones from pristine, clean sounds to classic rock crunch and extreme metal distortion. For instance, Channel 1 can produce jangly, glassy cleans and bright crunch tones, while Channel 2 delivers the amp's signature high-gain sounds. Sound-shaping controls.. Check. Many versions feature a 3-position voicing switch on the high-gain channel (Doom, Focused, and Bright), giving players detailed control over their sound.
Metamorph control: Some versions include a Metamorph control, a unique feature for shaping the tightness and feel of the high-gain channel.
Power amp controls: Global controls such as Presence, Depth, and Density are available to further sculpt the overall character of the sound.
Amp variations (Tube options):
The Uberschall is available with different power tube configurations, which affect its overall tone. Examples include versions with 6L6 tubes, EL34s, or KT88s.
Ultra Mk2: The Uberschall Ultra Mk2, for example, is described as having an even tighter bottom end and percussive attack, perfect for modern playing.
Rev Blue: The "Revision Blue" version is a highly sought-after model, known for its specific sonic characteristics.
Construction and features
All-tube design: The Uberschall is an all-tube design that provides the punch and responsiveness of traditional amps.
Footswitch: The amp typically comes with a footswitch to control functions like channel switching, a gain boost, and the effects loop.
Tone examples and applications
Modern metal: It excels at producing chunky, saturated tones suitable for modern metal.
Classic rock: The versatile clean and crunch channels can also deliver classic, touch-sensitive Marshall-style tones.
Studio staple: The Uberschall is a long-standing staple in recording studios for achieving high-gain sounds.
